- All participants must register
on the application found on this web page or
by contacting the Council members. The main
purpose of the registration is to determine
the number of participants so as to allow
groups to organize.
- Participants must provide for
their own well being. If not familiar with
weather and the sun of New Mexico contact the
Council for advice. Food, water, shelter will
not be provided by the Expedición de 1598.
The expedition council will make available
contact phone numbers for sponsors along the
route.
- Expedición de 1598 will
provide toilet facilities along the route.
- Littering is against the law
in New Mexico. Trash receptacles will be
provided along the route, please use them.
Scheduled routes will avoid traffic areas and
private property as much as possible. Along
paved roads participants will yield to
traffic. All of the rules of the road will be
obeyed. Respect private property.
- Dogs must be accustomed to
being around horses and be controlled. The
Captain has the discretion of removing
problem dogs.
- The procession will be led by
Expedición de 1598 members in period
costume. Travel will occur only during
daylight hours. The Carreta will start at
7:00AM on the sheduled day, at the scheduled
location, along the route. Changes due to
weather may slightly vary the schedule.
Changes to the schedule or route will be
announced at that time. The schedule posted
on the web and in local newspapers will be
update daily. In the event of a possible
thunderstorm, all participants must take
shelter out of the open and not under trees.
- Automobiles , motorcycles and
other engine powered vehicles must wait till
the all others have left the camp or leave
the procession and drive ahead to the next
camp.
- The Carreta will stop at noon,
and at will start at will. Automobiles ,
motorcycles and other engine powered vehicles

- People on foot or on horseback
will lead the procession. Automobiles,
motorcycles and other engine powered vehicles
must be located at the end of the procession.
- In general the procession will
be arranged in the chronological order of the
costume worn by the participants. Costumes of
the 1598 period will lead, blue jeans and
modern apparel will be located toward the
end.
- The Carreta will stop for
Evening Camp near 6:00 PM or upon arriving at
the scheduled location.
- No provisions will be made for
overnight parking of horse trailers,
automobiles, etc at the scheduled camps.
These vehicles must follow the procession to
the next camp or be located off the camp
sites until the participant decides to leave
the expedition. The expedition assumes no
responsibility for vehicles parked at camp
locations.
- In the event of a medical
emergency, contact an expedition Captain
distributed along the length of the
procession.
- All horses must be sound and
in good condition, subject to agriculture/
cattle inspection.
- Horses brought in from out of
state will need to have appropriate health
papers. Your local agriculture/cattle
inspector will know these regulations.
- Riding double on horses in not
allowed.
